Description
Erected in 1857 to replace the original 28 foot tower and keeper’s house built in 1848 on the shore of Lake Huron at the tip of Michigan’s thumb, the 89 foot Pointe aux Barques Lighthouse is one of the oldest continuously operating lights on the Great Lakes. Its present light is a rotating beacon maintained remotely by the U.S. Coast Guard. Port Hope, Michigan. Copyright 2017 Ann Horn. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.
