Thanks for your kind comment, Linda. Lake Michigan is one of the Great Lakes, which as inland bodies of water do not have tides. However, enormous waves created by storms and strong winds may wash over the piers on which the lighthouses are built. The catwalks, as those iron walkways are called, provided a way for the lighthouse keepers to get to the light towers in bad weather. Automated lights have pretty much made catwalks obsolete. Few are left.

I was looking at this wondering why the walkway is so high. I assume there are extreme high tides? Really interesting shot! FAV!
