Description
This architectural abstract of the Milwaukee Art Museum points to the Wisconsin shore of Lake Michigan on which the stunning landmark is located. The Quadracci Pavilion, designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, was opened in 2001 as an addition to an existing building, which still houses the permanent collection of art. Its exterior and interior are equally fascinating. The Burke Brise Soleil, a moveable sunscreen with a wingspan of 217 feet, folds over the spacious Windhover Hall at night and during inclement weather. Twice a day the wings are folded and then re-opened as sightseers watch. Copyright 2011 Ann Horn. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. Thank you very much for your gracious comment, Anne. The architecture of the art museum is a work of art in itself.
