Description
This architectural abstract of the Milwaukee Art Museum shows the wings of the Burke Brise Soleil, a moveable sunscreen with a total span of 217 feet. It folds over the spacious Windhover Hall at night and during inclement weather. Twice a day the wings are folded and then re-opened as sightseers watch. The Quadracci Pavilion, designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, was opened in 2001 as an addition to an existing building, which still houses the majority of the permanent collection of the art. Its exterior and interior are equally fascinating. Copyright 2011 Ann Horn.
