Description
A venerable horse chestnut tree (Aesculus hippocastanum) flourishes in an old churchyard near the historic Minster Church of St. Mary the Virgin in the town centre of Reading, Berkshire, England. Seeing this enormous old tree brought to mind the words of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow in his poem, The Village Blacksmith, written in the United States in 1842... "Under the spreading chestnut tree/The village smithy stands..." Copyright 2009 Ann Horn. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.
