Description
The tall steeple of a church rises above evergreens and autumn trees growing at the foot of the hill on which it stands. The title and the words on the image, though different, are both from the Old Testament. "For you shall go out in joy, and be led back in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall burst into song, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Isaiah 55:12. The steeple is that of Ferry Memorial Reformed Church in the small town of Montague, Michigan. The church building was built in 1874 in memory of Major Noah H. Ferry, who died in in the Civil War in1863 at the Battle of Gettysburg. Originally a Presbyterian Church, since 1942 the congregation has been affiliated with the Reformed Church in America.
