Artist's Description

This architectural abstract of the Milwaukee Art Museum shows the Burke Brise Soleil, a moveable sunscreen with a wingspan of 217 feet, in its open position. It folds at night and during inclement weather over the spacious Windhover Hall which is a major part of the Quadracci Pavilion. Designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, it was opened in 2001 as an addition to an existing building on Lake Michigan, which houses the majority of the permanent collection of the museum.
