Description
This architectural abstract of the Milwaukee Art Museum shows the Burke Brise Soleil, a moveable sunscreen with a wingspan of 217 feet, in the process of unfolding. It folds over the spacious Windhover Hall at night and during inclement weather. Twice a day the wings are folded and then re-opened as sightseers watch. The Quadracci Pavilion, designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, was opened in 2001 as an addition to an existing building on Lake Michigan, which still houses the majority of the permanent collection of the museum. Its exterior and interior are equally fascinating. Copyright 2011 Ann Horn. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.
